I will discuss with the client their requirements regarding subject, medium, price and timescale. A confirmation letter of commission will be produced from these initial discussions.
Wherever possible, I like to see the subject first hand and make preparatory sketches and reference photographs. in some instances I may be able to work from client's photographs.
I aim to fulfil the client's expectations but it is also important that I feel comfortable with the subject and design. I reserve the right to make the final decision on the design.
Price and Payment Schedule
The price for a commission will depend on a number of factors, eg. complexity of subject, medium, size and any research or travelling that may be required. As a general guide, typical commission prices may range from £250 to £500 although especially large or complex pictures are likely to cost more than this. Picture framing will normally be quoted as an estimated figure depending on frame chosen.
A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the agreed fee will be taken before commencement of work. The remaining 50%, again non-refundable, will be taken on production of compositional sketches, before the final piece is started. If the client does not wish to proceed after viewing the initial sketches they may do so without penalty.

My clients were on holiday when they saw my work exhibited locally.
They were due to return south in a fortnight, so the work was done not only to a tight schedule but also strictly to the clients wishes that I paint the particular Iris she so much loved.
This watercolour has been used as the background for a display panel at the Bwlch Nant yr Arian Visitor Centre in the Cambrian mountains.
The scene is looking down the Melindwr Valley with Aberystwyth and Cardigan Bay beyond.
